Joe Hawthorn Studio Gallery

January 2010,
Well folks last year was busy enough for me but I am really looking forward to this new year and decade, but before the year starts may I offer to everyone best wishes, health, happiness and prosperity to everyone for 2010.
I have been very busy lately with two new works finished, one a four canvas pop art poster painting of The Beatles which will be set on MDF board and ready to hang. The second a portait of Scottish singer/songwriter Michael Marra on stretch canvas waiting to go on exhibition shortly.
Both of these works will shortly be placed on my web gallery for you to view so keep a look-out for some stunning new works to view.
Also to view my original design tee shirts click on to Special Offers for something to wear that is just that wee bit special and eyecathing.
Meantime why don't you put the kettle on and enjoy a nice tea or coffee whilst you take some time out to browse through the rest of the site.
And finally for now, what can I say about this winter weather, we are definately not used to this prolonged snow coverage but it certainly does bring communities together which can only be good.
Yipee!!! It's now 10th. of January and the snow ploughs have come out, thank god for that!!!
Just added are two new original tee shirts, one Ringo Starr "Peace & Love" and the other John Lennon "Working Class Hero". Both pop art images taken from my original paintings. Click on to SPECIAL OFFERS to check them out.

P.S. I have posted a link to Michael Marra on my site, just click on to links page and click on his web address to go there.

May your day go well and life be good.

February, well into the new year now and I feel that I am now well into gear and motoring along nicely. Thanks to everyone who has shown an interest lately, all coments very welcome. Having completed and posted the portrait of Dundee born singer/songwriter Michael Marra last month, I am now continuing this theme having just completed a portrait of legendary Scottish folk icon Dougie Maclean. I suppose Dougie is best known to most people for penning the song "CALEDONIA" now a world wide anthem to all Scots everywhere. I'm a big fan of Dougie and I am lucky enough to have seen him perform many times over the years and look forward to seeing him again on his next Sottish tour.
The portrait I have created of Dougie Maclean is a classic dramatic work with Dougie caught in halfh light and the picture I based my work on I took directly from Dougie's own website. I have also used the title of one of Dougie's compositions as the title for my painting "READY FOR THE STORM", also one of my favourite all time tracks by Dougie. This painting will be posted very shortly and to view just click on to "Portraits" on my web gallery.
I have also completed a couple of new abstracts which will shortly be paced on site for you to view and these were a nice wee diversion before continuing with my theme of portraits.
I am now presently working on a two canvas work of Scottish pop duo "The Proclaimers" and more of that coming shortly.

P.S. I have posted a link to Dougie Maclean's website on my site, click on to link page to go there.

Have just been to see new film "THE LOVELY BONES", a very disturbing film, but gripping with a message for all of us. A must see movie!!

So bye for now, take care and may your day go well.

March, and the month started with winter still gripping us, so having battened down the hatches it now looks like we have now turned a corner and Spring is indeed now on it's way. I'm still working on my double portrait of the Proclaimers as I took a break for some R&R. Now back to work , painting away and preparing for my next exhibition in a couple of months time.
Just been to see Michael Marra in concert with my wife last night. The man is a one off, absolutely great night.

April, Longing for summer and the warmth of the sun on my back, working away quietly, I recently created/painted two works and presented them to the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate. These works highlight that art exhibitions are held in the theatre complex. I was then asked if I could update/revamp and produce some signs which would add some sparkle to the theatre. I have just completed this work and will hand them over to the theatre in a day or two. The theatre will then frame these and hang them in their foyer, so if you visit there hope you like them.
Also started the month by going to see "ON THE BLIND SIDE" with my wife, absolutely great feel good film, lets you see that not everything is doom and gloom, and if you really want something and are willing to work to make things happen they can and will.
Sunday  4th. and we travelled through to kircaldy to visit the Jack Vettriano exhibition there in his home town before it moves to London and Milan. And yes well worth the visit to both a lovely gallery and exhibition. Hope your day goes well.

May has arrived and I'm more than glad to see that summer is on coming through, working very hard to put things together for my forthcoming solo show at the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate. Not quite there , but nearly ready. Also preparing for the Aspect Prize exhibition this June/July, then look forward to preparing for the RSA open this coming October.
Took some time off to go and see one of my favourite singer/songwriters, the incomparable Michael Marra who was very well supported by Mr Mcfalls Chamber. A really brilliant night was had by all.
We also went to see the brilliant Eagles tribute band "TALON" last week, note for note a perfect night, really good show and well worth catching them in concert.
Well that's May come and gone, it was a good one for me and hope that your days have gone well.

July
We have lost our summer for now but hopefully it will be back asap.
I do find myself very busy at this time, having just put on my solo exhibition at thr Regal Communty Theatre in Bathgate, West Lothian. The exhibition will run from 5th. July to 30th. September so there is plenty of time for anyone wishing to visit.
I titled the exhibition "TWENTY", simply because I have put 20 paintings forward to exhibit here. A small but very eclectic and inspirational group of paintings.
I am now concentrating on completing 5 new works for two forthcoming exhibitions this autumn. So I guess I had better get on with it.
As a final word for July Im'm very glad to say that The West Lothian Herald and Post featured an article on myself and my solo exhibition at the Regal Community Theatre in Bathgate and the feedback from this has been excellent. So thankyou Herald and Post.
