Joe Hawthorn Studio Gallery

Whether you are a banker, baker or candle-stick maker everyone has a lifestorey. So hello my name is Joe Hawthorn and I am a working artist. Born in Glasgow in 1952 I now live in Livingston West lothian, a small town with lots of park areas and surrounded by countryside.
I am blessed that I can easily access the many country walks and parklands from my home and I enjoy walking these pathways etc. Always I find myself invigourated surrounded by the lush vegetation and the wide array of wildlife that my eyes feast upon time and again, and as the light continually changes I am always assured of seeing something different if not spectactular at these times. Where I live in "sunny" Eliburn I also have very easy access to travel the length and breadth of the country which offers and allows me the opportunity to view and be inspired by some of the most beautiful landscape and scenery you could possibly imagine.
My life as an artist has taken many twists and turns over the years but I think if I am honest with myself then I would have to say that I have always been a dreamer. And having made that statement that for me the term "dreamer" is not about living in the clouds, but using my thoughts and imagination as I have pondered on life issues and cocerns of our ailing planet.
Having said all of that, my art portfollio is an eclectic mix in both medium and subject matter. I feel that I have the right approach and that variety is indeed the spice of life, and as an artist I not only look to be inspired but also inspiring to others.
I also feel that as an artist if I feel a burning issue (whether global, national or personal) then I should capture and highlight on canvas and perhaps help stimulate debate.
But enough of all that, art should be enjoyed, not only by the artist but the viewer equally. And I certainly strive for that.
So we have here a short rambling and I think that that is probably enough and I'll let my work do the rest of the talking.
